An interview with Kait Turshen, Founder of SLFMKR, on how she creates her own Sunday Sanctuary. How do you create a sanctuary in your life?I feel that creating sanctuary in anyone's life is one of the most important things you can do not only for yourself, but also for your loved ones. I try to create sanctuary for each of my five senses somewhere in my home everyday. For touch, hugs from my husband and 4 year old daughter Remy always bring a wave of calm and happiness no matter the mood I'm in. For sight, I love minimalist design touches or pops of unexpected art, such as the Ares candle that matches my library perfectly or my mother-in-law's artwork. This Christmas I received a guitar from my husband and while my sound is not quite yet mastered, I feel such serenity while I play. This has filled the void of a sound sanctuary that was previously missing from my life. For smell and taste, my haven is our kitchen. Whether making buffalo cauliflower tacos or baking gluten free bread, nothing brings sanctuary like food made with simple ingredients, intention and love. And of course for those times when we no longer want to smell grilled onions or the remnants of last night's korma, I reach for the Mansour Marrakech candle and all is perfectly fragrant again. What are your favorite self-care products? As the owner of a studio dedicated to self-care, I have many, many favorites. I absolutely love the Rosewater + Chamomile Hydrating Facial Toner and Rosehip Co2 Regenerative Facial Serum from Palermo, OY-L's Exfoliating Manuka Mask and Beautycounter's shampoo and conditioner. I've also recently started oil pulling and I love Keeko's Morning Mint Sachets.I'm also hugely into gua sha, which is often referred to as nature's Botox. Gua sha is an ancient Chinese medicine technique that when done on the face, helps to sculpt, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce under eye puffiness and dark circles, as well as improve overall elasticity for smoother, brighter skin. Additionally, this technique has many overall health benefits, including increased circulation and energy and can even assist in opening congestion issues like blocked sinus and headache. I find it so relaxing that it is often the last thing I do before bed. What are your favorite Sunday activities that prepare you for the week ahead?I always love to cook a healthy dinner for our family every Sunday, take a walk outside, meditate during my daughter's naptime and do a hair mask while I give Remy her bath [I love the Scalp Detox from Act + Acre].What is your favorite L’or de Seraphine candle?Ruby! The bright notes of goji berry, mango and orange just elicit a boost of happiness whenever I smell them.
